parasite

many of you know that this has been bothering me for a long time. i have been extremely reluctant to point a direct finger, but i feel i must do it. i had a new post all ready to go, pictures uploaded, but i am just too angry to go on.

the parasite, as parasites do, finds images on my blog, then after a bit, sometimes only one or two days, posts it on her blog. a few examples above.

i seems that since i asked her to please not lift images directly from my blog without crediting them, she finds it on my blog then, i assume, finds the image and posts it on her blog. not once has she said 'via' my blog, nor credited learning about something, nor being inspired by my blog. nothing.

she has visited my blog 16 times in the last 20 days. i never counted up before, but i've found her visits about that frequently all along. for a while there, she was spending hours every night. still no credits -- and not one single comment on my blog either.

though she's featured identical 'comparisons' as i have, always after i have, and even run poems after i've run them, her commentary i think frequently is her own. i'm sorry -- that tempers my anger only very very slightly.

ask her about this and i'll bet she'll lie. i've seen her do it. (gotta say, though: i stopped going there because of my blood pressure, so i haven't read much. but sometimes something comes up on a search....)

what came up today is arthur wesley dow. in the middle of my series on dow, she, having visited every day this week, does a post on dow. this is not a coincidence. this is a parasite.

    I am so sorry, lily. It is very clear that her work is directly inspired by your originality, thoughtfulness and creativity. (But I'm sure it does not make you feel better to be her "muse".)

    I'm really really sorry to hear this. When I was blogging, find this keep of people used to make me sick again. I never liked that kind of person or those bloggers that posts tons of images and not even a single link to the original site / product / artist. That's too sad. I hope she stops with that.

    Put a simple via doesn't hurt anyone and doesn't make anyone loses the visitors. That's just stupidity.

    Always amazing that people do this. See Aesthete's Lament for similar problems with someone else this year. Decorno had a problem a few years ago. I guess a certain percentage of people are plagiarists, and too insecure to post credit or add a link to their commentary. Of course you are the original, and eventually people figure it out.

    Phishing scams (dA got hit hard) & outright thievery- sad comment on the state of the virtual, & by extension, "real" world. I confess, I save images from your blog all the time- but for my own personal reference & inspiration, not to be transplanted elsewhere...the idea of taking one person's hard work & translating it into work being passed as their own, minus perhaps the actual commentary- plagiarism. It sucks big time, but speaking for myself & everyone else who'c come to your blog & discovered the beauty your hard work has uncovered, don't stop because of some twit (twitess?) Please, don't make me (us?) beg.

    Lotusgreen, I'm fairly new here, but astonished and inspired by the depth of your thought and aesthetic appreciation.
    Imitation may be the greatest form of flattery, but it never compares to the original.
    Your work is first class, one of my very favorite sites, please keep it up! (not the blood pressure:)

    I should take the time to comment more since I spend so much time here. My excuse is that there's something so blissfully serene about savoring your blog, that the clatter of my keyboard seems such a rude interruption.

    Although I don't condone your follower's actions, she certainly has good taste. I'll give her that much.

    balsamfir--i just realized why i didn't get your comments--you were on my blocked list!?! this happened once before and i was so confused why i was never getting my neighbor's emails. that's why i checked.

    I am so sorry (but not surprised) to hear this. I try to be very respectful of my sources. I don't have any (or much) photographic ability but when I write an essay, I take jpegs from either the gallery website (with attribution) or from a common source like ArtEncyclopedia. I use quotes and also reference the books that I'm quoting - or as much as possible. That said, nothing that I write is anywhere as insightful or evocative as your website. What you have is truly original and it's a shame that somebody is copying you. Like one of your posters above, I do take images from your website but only for my personal art gallery. I have so many images in that gallery that I'd need a palace bigger than Versailles to show them and a fair portion of the images come from you. I've linked you via my blog and can't thank you enough for your presence on the web - of grace, scholarship and beauty.

    it means a lot that some of you actually save some of the images. me too, obviously. i think at some time (before the blog?) i thought i'd print them out and have them on my walls, and i never do.

    i tried it once, turned out okay, but somehow the experience of it was less than having it here on my computer.
