japonisme: in its own way

in its own way

THIS BE THE VERSE

They fuck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.

But they were fucked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy- stern
And half at one another's throats.

Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don't have any kids yourself.

Philip Larkin

though only tangentially related to the rest of the post, for some glimpses of japan around the times that we often discuss, have a look at this.

such powerful and harsh words... and yet the paintings tell a different story, that it matters to stay there and fight.

i would say that my life confirms the words, and that the images could be telling any number of stories.

Parents may do all sorts of things to their children. But first they gave them life. Which means they gave them the chance to be human too.
